Sigiriya is an ancient city like to be in heaven. It was built by King Kashyapa in 477-495 AD. King Kashyapa only became king when he killed his father and fought his brother, Moggallana and Kashyapa won, so his brother fled to South India. Sigiriya was built in the Fifth century and King Kashyapa lived in the highest building. It was Sri Lanka's new capital and King Kashyapa belived he was God. Inside some of the caves you can still see remains of the ancient frescoes of the Sigiriya maidens. King Kashyapa committed suicide and killed himself with his own sword. Moggallana claimed the land of what we now called Sri Lanka. And changed the capital city to Anuradhapura.
After King Kashyapa died, a forest grew over Sigiriya so only the locals knew it was even there. George Turnour went to Sri Lanka and to find Sigiriya but he couldn't find it.He came back a few years later and found it! So builders started working on it.
